A CUT price coach service to the capital is set to launch next month offering commuters up to half the fares of trains.
Peter Warren’s mission to try and help get Hastings folk back into work has already sparked interest with
eight confirmed bookings.
And with train fares set to rocket again in the new year (see page nine) Mr Warren, owner of Barcroft Tours, hopes to cash in on any backlash from rail commuters.
Mr Warren will roll out his first coach to the capital from his base in London Road in St Leonards on September 17.
Prices for an annual ticket are £2,400, quarterly £720, monthly £260 and weekly at £70.
With prices for an annual season ticket to the capital costing more than £5,000, Mr Warren is expecting many more passengers to follow suit.
Mr Warren says he has secured a transport route agreement with Transport For London and aims to run his service through most of the major capital business hubs such as Canary Wharf and the City.
The first pick up will be 5am at Bexhill and the last drop off in Victoria at 8am.
He will start picking up London at 5.20pm from Embankment and return to Bexhill Town Hall Square by 8.45pm.
The coach will stop for regular customers outside their homes if they live along the route.
If demand outstrips supply, Mr Warren will put on more coaches if needed.
He said: “I wanted to try and help people in Hastings get back into work. I even went to the job centre to tell them about the service.
“We have been getting a lot of interest and I think commuters can see the benefits of taking the coach over the train.
“Firstly it is a guaranteed seat in relaxed and comfortable surroundings.
“There are several hundred people going to the capital every day and most of them will pay a lot of money for no seat.
“We offer a guaranteed service with refreshments, air con and toilets.
“There is even parking available on parts of the route here and if we can drop people off outside their front doors we will. We aim to please.” For information visit www.barcrofttours.co.uk or call 200201
