A TEENAGER proved she certainly doesn’t have two left feet after coming top in a dancing competition.

Claire Rootes, 18, of Tenterden Rise, took part in the recent UK and Europe West Coast Swing Championships in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

She beat 14 other couples and came top in the Newcomer category after performing with her dancing partner Shane Feldman.

Miss Rootes, who works at Boots in the town centre, said: “I was not expecting to win, especially as I did not even plan to enter. I went over there to watch the competition.

“I was asked if I could take part so did. There were more than 300 competitors overall who participated.”

She was presented with a medal and trophy for her achievement.

West Coast Swing dancing is similar to jive, which became popular in the 1940s and 1950s.
