Choristers needed for new choir called Herring Girls

AUDITIONS are being held next month for the setting up of a new choir.

Carol Prior, choir leader, is looking for people to sign up and join Herring Girls.

The choir will be singing songs featured in the play Get Up And Tie Your Fingers, which is performing later in the summer this year.

Auditions take place next Saturday (February 8) from 10am to 5pm at the Stade Hall.

Herring Girls choir is open to women of all ages and girls, aged 16 and over.

Get Up And Tie Your Fingers was written in 1995 about the Herring Girls or lassies, the women from the Scottish islands who would follow the fishing boats down the east coast as they followed the herring shoals.

Carol said: “This is a great opportunity to develop your singing and performance skills and be part of something very special. We will rehearse on Monday evenings starting February 10.

“Herring Girls is part of a wider national touring arts project Follow The Herring which will be coming to the town the week beginning July 28 this year with performances on August 1 and 2.”

For more details about the project and to fill in a preliminary questionnaire contact Carol by email at or ring 01424 714405 / 07984 927271.
