THE magic of the Far East is coming to Hastings later this month as the local Chinese community celebrates its New Year.
Members of the Hastings Chinese Association have joined forces with the Hastings Intercultural Organisation and Women’s Voice to plan a four-hour extravaganza for Priory Meadow in the town centre on February 13.
It will include a spectacular lion dance every hour on the hour as well as demonstrations of traditional Chinese dancing and martial arts.
Michelle Foo, one of the organisers who works at the local Peking Garden restaurant, said: “The Chinese New Year is a fantastic 15-day celebration, and I wanted to bring just some of its colour, magic and energy to Hastings.
“We would obviously like as many residents and visitors as possible to join us.”
Council leader Jeremy Birch added: “Hastings rightly has a very good name for the tremendous events it puts on.
“I think it is really great that the Chinese community wants to share its special celebration with us.
“I am really looking forward to this colourful new event.”
