THE lucky charity to win a pitch at this year’s Hastings Beer and Music Festival has been announced.
Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club submitted a bid for the Pitch 4 a Pitch initiative, set up by festival organisers, Hastings Round Table.
The club is planning to hold a rowing competition on their pitch at the event, which runs on July 4, 5 and 6, to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice.
The public were invited to vote for their favourite charity pitch at this year’s festival with the winner also getting a £500 cheque.
It ended up being a close run race between Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club and Demelza children’s hospice for the prize.
Other runners-up included Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SASBAH) and West Hill Boxing Club.
Cinnamon McManus, social secretary for Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club, said: “This is what the beer festival is all about, the local community getting out there and making it happen. I can’t thank the Round Table enough for this great opportunity.”
James Beeching, from the Round Table, said: “I know what going viral means, as we reached more than 46,000 Facebook users.
“I truly hope this has increased people’s awareness for these community groups and more apply next year, as this is something we will definitely have every year.
“It has literally been a runaway success.”
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Round Table is showcasing the festival from 10am to 5pm inside Priory Meadow where people can buy tickets and meet some of the bands.
