People will be able to see giant Victorian steam engines in action at Brede Waterworks on Bank Holiday Monday when Brede Steam Engine Society holds a free Open Day.

The event takes place from 10am - 4pm and there is free parking and guided tours.

Brede Waterworks is situated in the Brede Valley, signposted from the A28 at the top of Brede Hill by St George’s Church.

The Tangye Tea Bar will be serving light refreshments and home-made cakes.

The steam engines were once used to draw water from below the valley floor to supply the Hastings area.

They have been lovingly restored to their former glory by the Society.

Society Chairman John Foxley said: “It is a great family day out. Come along and see British engineering heritage at is best.”
