Cars targeted by vandals

Vandals damaged four cars over the weekend.

The cars targeted, which were all parked and unattended, were a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a red Hyundai Lantra, both in St Helen’s Crescent, a bronze Vauxhall Corsa in Manor Road and a dark blue Vauxhall Corsa in Laton Road.

All of the cars had damage to their steering columns or ignition systems and a stereo was stolen from the Laton Road vehicle.

Police said the damage happened sometime between 6pm on Saturday (May 11) and 3.10pm on Sunday (May 12).

Inspector Gareth Evans said: “All of these cars are more than 10 years old and it appears they have been targeted due to their age. If you are the owner of an older vehicle do ensure that you have adequate security such as a steering lock and if you have alarm, do activate it.

“We are carrying out investigations and should you see anyone hanging around cars looking suspicious contact us on the non emergency number 101 straight away. Your call may well prevent a crime from taking place. If you see a crime being committed, please dial 999 immediately.”

Any witness or anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting serial 413 of 12/05. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
