THREE new care homes could be opened after the county council put a host of prime sites up for sale.
The Moreton Centre in Boscobel Road, St Leonards, closed in October after the completion of the renovation work at the Isobel Blackman Centre in the Old Town. Now the site is up for grabs, along with land on The Ridge with planning permission for a 48-bedroom care home, and a plot in Westfield,
East Sussex County Council (ESCC) drew up plans under the Age Well initiative to bring the sites back into use for the good of the community and new owners will be given long leaseholds but they must be used for care homes.
Keith Hinkley, ESCC director of adult social care, said: “This is good news for East Sussex as we will be able to work in partnership with the independent sector to ensure quality adult social care is available in the county for the foreseeable future.”
Christopher Wishart, who works in the healthcare team for estate agents Knight Frank, the company overseeing the sales, said: “The strategy from ESCC is a well considered approach to improve elderly care facilities within the county. We expect there to be interest in the programme from a large number of private care providers from both the for-profit and voluntary sectors.”
The sites will be sold on informal tender process and there are also plots in Ringmer and Uckfield up for sale.
