Campaigners’ protest against arms trade

PEACE campaigners are taking part in a national protest against the arms trade today (Friday).

Hastings Against War will be holding a bike tour between the three General Dynamics sites, starting at Ashdown House at 1pm, before moving onto the industrial estates at Castleham and Churchfields.

Activists intend to cycle from each site handing out leaflets about the arms trade to passers-by.

Today’s protest will be followed by a lecture by one of the country’s leading drone authorities Chris Cole, who has written various briefings and writes the blog Drone Wars.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the event on Tuesday (October 2), which starts at 7.30pm at the Friends Meeting House in South Terrace.

Maya Evans, from Hastings Against War, said: “While visiting Afghanistan on a peace delegation I met innocent civilians who had lost loved ones to drone attacks. It’s a particularly nasty, inaccurate and cowardly form of warfare. It’s like shooting someone in the back. I don’t want that kind of thing in my community.”
