Lauren O’Sullivan-Barnes, 21, and Maddie Burgin, 19, officially opened Amaryllis Natural Beauty in Stone Street earlier this month after years of hard work and determination.

“I started Amaryllis Natural Beauty in 2015 with the dream of changing my life for the better,” Lauren said.

“I come from an under-privileged background, being brought up on a council estate in Barking, Essex by my mother who, at the time, was a single parent living off hardly enough money to eat properly, but she made sure I never went without.

“My upbringing has motivated me to do well in life and be able to provide for my future children and give back to my family for all the support they have given me over the years.

“This year Maddie and I decided to join forces and it was the best decision we ever made. She has such drive for such a young age and brings out a passion in me and I’m sure I do the same for her. We are just constantly making each other better people and better businesswomen.”

Amaryllis Natural Beauty was shortlisted in the 1066 Business Awards 2016 as the start up business of the year, while Lauren was in the running for the title of young entrepreneur of the year at the same ceremony.

The salon was opened on October 1 by Brett Mclean and Face of the World finalist Angel Beacroft, who offered mini head massages to raise money for charity.

“We believe this is such an amazing thing to happen to our town and shows the determination of our generation, and how much we are willing to work and make our lives better.

“We have both juggled part time jobs to make this dream become a reality and it’s finally coming true.”
