Hastings shopping centre Priory Meadow has been evacuated due to an automatic fire alarm this afternoon (Tuesday, February 23), according to reports.

Shoppers were told to leave the mall at around 2.55pm.

Two East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Bohemia Road and The Ridge are at the scene and have found smoke coming from the car park lift pump room.

Crews are currently working to establish the source of the smoke using an aerial ladder platform.

The shopping centre has been evacuated as a safety measure and we would ask members of the public to avoid the area at this time.

A fire service spokesman said firefighters think there is just smoke at this moment and no fire, but they are still investigating to make sure.
