A MAN, whose body was discovered washed up by Hastings Pier, has been identified.
Maricel Daniliuc, 24, a Romanian HGV driver, was found on the beach on Monday (June 3).
Mr Daniliuc, of Tudora, Botosani county in Romania, is thought to have driven his green Renault lorry to Hastings, arriving on Thursday, May 24 at 10am.
Detective Inspector Andy Harbour said: “Maricel, who had arrived at Dover that morning, parked the lorry in Linton Road and was seen to walk off, and that was the last sighting of him before his body was tragically found on the beach next to the pier.
“We don’t know where he went, who he was with, or why he was in Hastings. Detectives are working to piece together the last few days of his life.
“There is no reason at this stage to believe his death is suspicious, but it is being treated as unexplained.
“His family in Romania has been told and we are keen to gather as much information as possible as to what he was doing in the days before he died.
“If anyone recognises him or has any information they are asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0385 of 26/5, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
