A SWEAR box without the swearing is one of the more unusual ways to raise money for charity - but that is exactly what regulars at a St Leonards pub did.

The Bo-Peep raked in more than £500 for St Michael’s Hospice after setting up the endeavour last March.

Whenever a patron said a sexual innuendo or ‘lascivious uttering’ as the owner John Poole called it, a donation to the box was suggested.

He said: “We don’t swear that much, so customers added their loose change after wordly puns, quips and “inoffensive remarks” were thrown around.”

The bar plans to continue with the smut box this year but will share the cash with the Air Ambulance and Marie Curie charities as well.
