THE man in charge of Blue Reef Aquarium is running this month’s London Marathon to raise money for the Children with Cancer charity.
Chris Ireland will line up with more than 30,000 fellow runners, including Mo Farah, on Sunday (April 21).
As part of his year-long training programme he has already completed the Brighton and Poppy Half Marathons but this will be the first time he has faced the full marathon distance.
He said: “I am running the marathon for Children with Cancer UK as I think they are a relatively small charity doing extraordinary work to help children with cancer and their families through what is an incredibly tough life challenge. As a dad myself of a two-and-a-half-year-old I can only imagine how I would feel if something terrible happened to him, so I felt that I would like to do what I could to help this charity continue to deliver vital support to these brave youngsters.”
Children with Cancer UK has raised almost £140 million for research and treatment of childhood cancer over the last 24 years. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/Chris-Ireland1 or by texting RUNC83 £(amount) to 70070, e.g RUNC83 £5 to donate £5.
