Blind man has phone snatched in St Leonards

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man who is blind was robbed of his mobile phone in St Leonards.

The victim, aged 22, was walking along Cross Street on Wednesday 2 October at about 4.30pm having just got off a bus. A man approached and grabbed his Nokia mobile phone, which is a special edition model for blind people.

He was not hurt in the attack, but shaken and distressed. Detective Constable Dan Schiraldi said: “This is despicable crime because the victim is blind and he has had his special edition phone stolen.

We are appealing for any witnesses who saw this to come forward.”

The suspect is a white man, 6’, aged about 25 to 35, with dark hair, and was wearing light coloured trousers, dark shoes, a dark waist length jacket and a white shirt.

A 31-year-old man from St Leonards has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed until 1 November.
