A family-run cafe is in the running to be crowned home of the Best Builders’ Breakfast in Britain.
Cafe 17, in Bexhill Road, St Leonards, has been entered into the competition, run by MyBuilder.com.
Maria and Frank Murray have run Cafe 17 for the last 13 years.
Maria said: “It has been quite nice to be recognised, it was such a shock to be nominated.
“We have got lots of people who come in all the time.
“Our breakfasts are the most popular, but we also do home-cooked dinners and sandwiches.”
She added that the cafe uses oil low in cholesterol, and all produce is sourced locally.
The competition was launched by online tradesman-finding website MyBuilder as a survey of builders’ and tradesmen’s breakfast tastes in order to find the definitive Best Builders’ Breakfast in Britain.
MyBuilder has asked the 63,000 tradesmen on its books, including plumbers, electricians, plasterers and painters to nominate their favourite breakfast vendor, whether it is a traditional ‘greasy spoon’, transport café, hotel or a van by the side of an A-road.
The competition has been open since September, but Cafe 17 received their nomination this month.
It came from a customer named Geoff, from G&H Building Services.
He said: “I nominate for Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings, Cafe 17, which provides not only great breakfasts but great homemade lunches as well for the alternative to bacon and eggs.
“All food is freshly cooked and locally sourced fresh ingredients from local butchers, bakers and farms.
“Good food and a very friendly service.”
The winning cafe or diner will be named as the home of the Best Builder’s Breakfast In Britain on November 27, and presented with a trophy by MyBuilder.
One builder or tradesman who nominates the winner will win breakfast for four there, as well as a one-year free membership at MyBuilder.com.
The deadline for nominations for cafes that serve the Best Builders’ Breakfast in Britain is November 13. Email email@example.com.
