Battle & District Ladies Luncheon Club

Members were allowed to bring along their male 'spice' to the last meeting on February llth, which resulted in a bumper attendance, spreading into two rooms at the Beauport Park Hotel, Battle Road, St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Many present were intrigued by the change in the hotel, now it's part of the Ballantyne chain, resulting in a new bar and modern appearance.

The aim of the club is to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the raffle raised 90.

Following lunch Mr. John Derris beguiled and entertained with his stories 'Behind the doors of the Magic Circle' explaining that the Headquarters are near Euston Station in London where parties may visit to see the Museum and be shown magic in the delightful theatre there.

He'd been interested in magic from a very early age and had been a member of the Magic Circle for many years.

After bewitching and amusing those present with tricks, anecdotes and witty patter he answered many questions without divulging any magic secrets and his audience went home in good spirits, much needed in the current climate of gloom.

The next meeting is on Wednesday March llth at the same venue when Mr. Philip Godliman will talk on the 'History and culture of gypsy travellers'.

Reservations and further information for members, guests and prospective members by Friday 6th March please to Mrs. Pat Clements on 01424 215310.
