AFTER a good summer break rehearsals recommenced on Monday, September 2 and work continued on music for the next concert which will be an all Italian programme.
We will be singing Vivaldi’s popular Gloria as a prelude to a Rossini Mass that is less well-known. The Petite Messe Solennelle is quite different to the more opulent masses of that period and at times the rhythms are bright and almost dance like. After the demands of Bach’s monumental choruses, members are enjoying the change of style of both the Rossini and Vivaldi.
The concert will be on Saturday, November 30 at Christ Church, Silchester Road, St Leonards at 7.30pm. For the first time we will be offering tickets online as well as the usual ways so we hope you might like to take advantage of this ‘easy option’. However, before then the choir will be recording a CD of Christmas music, so the Memorial Hall will resound to the sound of Christmas carols a little earlier than usual.
Thinking well ahead to next May 17, 2014, (a date for new diaries) we had an outing to the Proms last month to hear the Brahms German Requiem which we will be singing in May to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. Conducted by the first woman to conduct the Last Night of the Proms, Marin Alsop, it was a most profound and deeply moving experience and has certainly given us much to think about.
We are always looking for new members and even if you can’t read music there are ways in which you can be helped. If you enjoy listening to great choral music or just enjoy singing then either go to our website www.battlechoral.co.uk or ring 01424 870862. Rehearsals are held in the Memorial Hall on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. You are welcome to come along for a few rehearsals, free of charge, to see how you get on.
