BATTLE Choral Society members are enjoying their summer break after the success of the last concert in May – Bach’s mighty B Minor Mass.
In June the chairman’s garden was opened to the choir and public and raised a good sum, despite the weather! There was also the usual end of year social evening which was enjoyed by all who attended.
However, the administrative work continues and this includes making arrangements for the rehearsing and recording of a CD of Christmas Carols!
It’s a little frightening to have to think ahead to Christmas but, as with all things like this, arrangements have to be in place well ahead of the actual recording.
In between singing carols in September we will also be well into rehearsals for our next concert which will be an all Italian programme. Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle is not as well-known as his other works, but has wonderful melodies and almost dance like rhythms in places – very different to the usual more opulent masses written at that time.
The other work will be Vivaldi’s Gloria – a well-known composition to most choral societies, but providing a lovely contrast to the Messe Solonnelle.
The Concert is on Saturday, November 30 in Christ Church, St Leonards.
Please note this date for your diary, and more details will follow nearer the time, including an opportunity to buy the Carol CD to get well ahead with your Christmas shopping!
We are always looking for new members and would warmly welcome anyone interested. Tenors seem to be the shyest, but all voices would be pleasing, so why don’t you try us?
Contact either the chairman on 01424 860862 or the membership secretary on 01424 845219. Rehearsals begin again at 7.30 pm. on Monday, September 2 at the Battle Memorial Hall.
