Battle Choral Society finished their last season on a high with a triumphant Jubilee Concert the finale of which was Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the final choral movement. A wonderful finale for choir, orchestra, soloists and audience.
The new season began early September with rehearsals for Faure’s Requiem and Gounod St Cecilia Mass which will be performed at St John The Evengelist Church, Pevensey Road St. Leonards on Saturday December 1st. Tickets are already on sale for this concert, from Raggs, Battle High Street or The Little Larder, St Leonards
However, a pause in rehearsals was taken on September 24th at the AGM when 2 two officers whose posts of Chairman and Secretary had totaled almost 40 years. An incredible responsibility for Jean Thompson, the retiring Chairman and Shirley Wilde the retiring secretary, which has seen the choir move on in many important ways. The choir and patrons showed their considerable gratitude, with many gifts and very warm words of thanks.
The Choir has taken part in two outside events. During the summer we combined with Battle Abbey Choir in a concert to celebrate the Abbey School’s 100th anniversary. O lovely occasion for the ‘oldies’ of the choir combining with the fresh and enthusiastic voices of the Abbey Choir.
Just recently we joined a special singing concert raising funds for St Michaels Hospice, and at the end many of the participating choirs came together under the baton of John Langridge to sing excerpts from the Messiah. We certainly managed to produce a wonderful and enthusiastic sound.
