AN all-day programme of events in celebration of the bandstand took place in Alexandra Park.
Bandstand Marathon Day, last Sunday (September 9), was part of a nationwide celebration of bandstands and open spaces.
Organiser Louise Kelleher said: “The programme of events was varied and designed to show how versatile and useful our beautiful bandstand is, from morning yoga with Romana , through to a hilarious children’s party with Pepe Mache’s Portable Pantomimes and a great bandstand gig from the charismatic Not Guilty, who had the crowd dancing and singing along.”
In the afternoon, the bandstand became a pop-up vintage tea room, complete with cream teas, classical music, and vintage crockery.
The planned open air cinema showing of Breakfast at Tiffanys had to be hastily moved indoors to Eat @ the Park Cafe due to gusty weather conditions.
Louise said that there have already been calls for the event, funded by Hastings Borough Council, to become an annual fixture.
The bandstand can also be hired by members of the public for private functions. For details contact Louise on 07763 119143 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
