A DUO have beaten hundreds of other bands to reach the regional finals in a music competition.

Leilah Kaukolahti, 22, of Downey Close, St Leonards, and 24-year-old James Dennison, of Old Roar Road, make up the acoustic band View From Here.

They will be competing against around 50 other bands in the regional finals of Open Mic UK at the Hove Centre on Saturday, October 1.

The competition gives musicians the chance to win a £30,000 record contract.

Miss Kaukolahti said: “There were more than 9,000 people auditioning at the start of the contest and we were not really expecting to get through then, as a lot of people were being turned away.

“Both of us feel great and are very excited about this, as it is the biggest achievement for us so far.”

She and Mr Dennison formed View From Here just over a year ago.

Miss Kaukolahti said: “We have been gigging all around Hastings and the south east, with acoustic covers and own material for all of this time.

“Open Mic UK gives original artists the opportunity to win a £30,000 record contract and a chance to perform at The O2 in London at the grand final.

“Previous winners are now enjoying chart success around the globe.”

At the Hove Centre, View From Here will be performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place at the National Grand Final.

If the duo win they will also have the opportunity to tour across the UK.
