THE OWNERS of a bed and breakfast will be on national television all next week after they took part in a Channel4 series.
Andrea Hickmott, 42, and partner Nick Bonner-Williams, 50, the owners of North Rise Lodge, in Fairlight Road, are one of four couples, taking part in next week’s edition of Four in a Bed, to be aired on Channel4 at 5pm starting on Monday (January 28).
The couples compete to be named best value, and each takes it in turn to host the others at their bed and breakfast, taking the group out for an activity and dinner, before their guests get to sample their hospitality.
At the end of the stay is a feedback session, after which the guests pay what they think it was worth.
Andrea and Nick have been running North Rise Lodge for around 18 months.
Andrea said: “We watched the show when we were first renovating, and applied.
“They contacted us for a telephone interview then came for an interview around the house.”
Filming took place at the end of September last year, though Andrea and Nick have no idea what the finished programme will be like.
She said: “I’m nervous because I found it quite emotional, especially when it came to our place.
“It was an amazing experience and we hope it does us good.
“I loved working with the crew, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“We all offered something completely different, all the other couples were lovely.
“It did get difficult after feedback day.”
She said that one of the differences between North Rise Lodge and the other Bed and Breakfasts was that while Andrea and Nick do everything themselves including cooking and cleaning, the other couples employed staff, meaning the playing field was less than even.
When it was their turn to play host, Andrea and Nick intended to impress their guests with a round of crazy golf, however the rain put a dampener on things.
Dinner was a more cheerful affair at Lathams Brasserie, in George Street.
Andrea said that it was unlikely they would be putting themselves forward for a television show again, however.
“One was enough, and emotional enough,” she said.
“You do put yourself under a lot of pressure when filming.”
