Five new signs have been installed in St Leonards highlighting the area’s main drawcards.

The signs are a result of consultation and partnership work between Hastings Borough Council and the Central St Leonards Town Team.

Councillor Jeremy Birch, Hastings Borough Council’s leader, said: “St Leonards is at a turning point with investment in regeneration and an influx of visitors to the town. It’s important therefore that the area is marked with detailed signage to clearly guide both tourists and residents around the area and highlight key areas.

“We are thrilled that the new signs, designed by Placemarque, who have been involved in similar projects in many towns and cities across the UK, are now in place. Image is important to the success of a town and these quality signs will certainly help to promote and raise the profile of an area that is fast becoming a very chic and trendy place to be.”

The lower panels have been designed by artist Danny Mooney with images that capture scenes typical of the area and Links Signs, a local company with years of experience fabricating signs for clients such as Transport for London, have manufactured the signs.

Danny said: “As an artist and resident I was thrilled to be asked to submit some of my daily iPad paintings to be used on these new wayfaring signs. These fabulous signs should give visitors a taste of the excitement I get from living here, and explain why I choose to paint St Leonards every single day.”

Chris Connelley, St Leonards Town Team chairman, said: “Blessed with a sumptuous seascape, awesome architecture and with a growing reputation as a fast regenerating jewel in the crown on the south coast, St Leonards is becoming a signature destination. Our distinctive new signage will help ensure that anyone spending time with us can seek out and enjoy the widest range of pleasures.”
