A former soldier who did national service during the 1950s is appealing for help in tracking down an old comrade.
Peter Roberts contacted the Observer to see if readers could help him get in touch with his old friend Stanley Wilson.
The pair joined the Army in 1955 to do their national service.
They both joined the First Kings Dragoon Guards and were posted to Malaya.
They became friends while serving in Stables Troop. Peter lost touch with Stanley in 1958 when he left the Army and returned home.
Now aged 77, Peter lives in Whitstable in Kent.
He said: “I was watching some of my old 8mm cine-film that I had from Malaya. It brought back so many memories as Stanley was in quite a bit of it.
“I wondered what had happened to him as we lost touch. We used to work in the Stables Troop looking after the officers horses. The officers would play polo and sometimes we would take the horses racing.
“I think Stanley would be the same age as me and he was from Hastings. If anybody knows where he is these days I would dearly like to get in touch.”
