Action-packed fun in store at It’s a Knockout

HARDY souls should head down to Horntye Park for a day of fun and fundraising as the town’s second It’s a Knockout event will be held later this month.

After the success of last year’s fundraiser paramedic Tim Hodgson is hosting a similar event on Sunday, September 22.

The event is in aid of the Sara Lee Trust, which provides complementary therapies, counselling and creative therapies to people in Hastings and Rother living through cancer and other serious illness.

The action-packed challenge will see teams battling it out for the title of Knockout Champions.

Among the weird and wacky events they will face will be jumping through 50-foot-long inflatables and ‘swimming’ through buckets of soapy water on a bouncy castle.

Mr Hodgson said: “It’s looking like it’s going to be a really busy day as we already have 20 teams registered, with room still available to take on more if they wish to take part.

“Registration on the day is from 10.30am and the games start at noon. It promises to be a great afternoon of fun and fundraising for teams of family, friends or work colleagues. There will be prizes for the winning team, and for the best fancy dress on the day.

“Everybody who took part last year all said as soon as I had a date for 2013 they wanted to re-enter.”

Last year’s event, held at the end of July, raised £1,500 for the Sara Lee Trust and St Michael’s Hospice, with 17 teams taking part despite bad weather on the day.

This year’s fundraiser is solely for the Sara Lee Trust.

Mr Hodgson said: “The trust works closely with the hospice and it has been struggling a bit with funds so I decided that this year’s event would be solely for the trust’s benefit.

“My mum Linda is also vice-chairman of the charity so the trust is close to my heart.

“I want to raise a good few thousand pounds for the charity this year.”

There will be live entertainment on the day from local band Dead Calm, as well as food and a licenced bar.

Activities for children include a bouncy castle, face painting and a fairground ride.

Teams of between six and 10 people are required to take part. Registration is £250 per team, and includes a barbecue meal after the event.
