Firefighters from across the coast attended a cooker fire in Hastings last night (Wednesday, December 16).

Four East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Hastings and Bexhill plus the aerial ladder platform from Eastbourne were mobilised to Eversfield Place at around 10:40pm.

Crews used breathing apparatus and one in seven foam to extinguish the fire which had started in a cooker.

Fortunately the residents had fully functioning smoke alarms which alerted them to the fire and enabled them to evacuate safely.

A fire investigation has confirmed the cause of the fire as accidental.
