THE St Leonards Academy held its first ever Year 11 Celebration Evening last Thursday (November 29) at the White Rock Theatre.
Students, staff, parents and academy guests gathered to mark the achievements of last year’s Year 11 students.
The guest of honour was Sophia Warner, an international athlete who has cerebral palsy. She represented Team GB at the Paralympic Games, coming fourth in the Women’s T35 100m and 200m.
Sophia gave an inspirational talk on how she has overcome her disability to achieve her goals and also spoke about her Paralympic experience. She then presented the GCSE certificates, Curriculum and Academy Awards and enjoyed a performance by the Key Stage 3 Performing Arts singing group and dance performances by Year 10 and 11 students.
Jenny Jones, principal, said: “It was a terrific evening celebrating the students’ achievements. Sophia Warner made the evening extra special for us all.”
