AN event featuring world-class DJs and visuals is a taste of things to come from a new town centre venue.

Launching The First Floor @ The Printworks, a 300-capacity space in the building at 14 Claremont, is club night Harmonica, on Saturday, September 15.

The event is organised by audiovisual artists Michael Denton and Anna McCrickard of Overlap, with DJ Alex Harmonic.

Michael said: “Outside of Brooklyn, I have never seen a venue like it, the ‘wow’ factor is enormous.

“I think it is possibly one of the best spaces I have seen anywhere in the world.

Promising danceable music, nothing cheesy or experimental, he added: “There are going to be big visuals and nu-form house. Within the town there just isn’t any competition.”

Part of the Coastal Currents programme the night will run from 9pm to 3am, and entry is £5. Visit www.facebook.com/HarmonicaClubnight for up to date information.

Situated in next to the library, the Grade II listed old Observer building is a seven-floor imposing Gothic pile, which artist Lorna Lloyd and husband Brian Dyke, have been painstakingly restoring inside and out over the last three years with help from their son Eddie Lloyd Dyke.

The First Floor is to be a curated events space, which the owners promise will include a wide cultural programme of events, though the details are being kept under wraps for now.

Lorna said: “Both Michael Denton and Anna McCrickard of Overlap are very highly regarded both domestically and internationally, I think it will be a brilliant launch event, we are very excited to have them at The Printworks.”

Two more events have however already been announced for September. On September 20, the screening and awards for the Hastings Film Challenge will take place from 7.30pm. Visit www.hastingsfilmchallenge.com for more information.

Then on September 22, part of the Coastal Currents programme, the space will also host The America Ground Revival, which is a night of live music, cabaret, and DJs, with a Cajun theme, from 8pm to late. Tickets are £5.
