Local elections should be postponed or cancelled because Rother District Council made a mistake with the candidate nomination form.
So claims Cooden Drive resident Gillian Stone whose partner Robert Schifreen spotted a website gaff on Monday.

He was thinking of putting himself forward and noticed that nominations had to be submitted by noon on Wednesday 15/5/2008..

"The 1
5th of the fifth isn't a Wednesday," said Gillian.

"I think that makes the election null and void surely?

"All legal procedures have to be absolutely correct for an election to go ahead. Rother will have to postpone or cancel it. They have to rectify it...because of that there is not enough time for people to get in because they haven't put the correct information up."

Robert contacted Rother on Monday to point out the mistake which was then put right.

A spokesman said: "The Council apologises for any confusion that this error may have caused but can reassure you that the neither Notice nor the election process has been invalidated by this. The last date for receipt of nominations is indeed Thursday 15 May and anyone interested in standing for election can obtain a nomination pack from the Electoral Services Manager at the Town Hall, Bexhill, by ringing 01424 787825 (24 hr answer phone service) or by e-mailing elections@rother.gov.uk".
