A new innovative contract has been awarded to The Landscape Group to manage grounds maintenance, which includes all the parks and seafront flower beds in Hastings and Rother districts.

By working together, Hastings Borough Council, Rother District Council and AmicusHorizon housing association have formed a unique grounds maintenance partnership to realise significant savings whilst ensuring that maintenance standards remain of the highest quality.

The Landscape Group, one of the longest established amenity horticulture specialists in the UK, have been awarded this prestigious grounds maintenance contract, one of the largest in the country, saving the partnership over £½ million per year, over the 10 year life of the contract.

The Landscape Group will take the reins for Hastings and AmicusHorizon on 06 November this year and with Rother, at the end of November. Residents will be able to see The Landscape Group liveried vans in the two areas from November.

Cllr Jeremy Birch, leader Hastings Borough Council explained:”By forming a joint partnership with Rother and AmicusHorizon we have been able to realise savings through economies of scale and smarter ways of working. This is the first time we have procured the grounds maintenance contract in partnership and we are very excited about working with our partners to ensure we maintain quality standards throughout our parks and open spaces. The new contract brings significant financial benefits of £5m for the partnership. That is great news for the residents of Hastings and great news for our partners.”

Councillor Westley, lead member for Parks, said: “Due to the size of the contract and our partnership approach, we attracted the best companies working in grounds maintenance to tender. We are very pleased to welcome The Landscape Group.’

Michelle Maybury, Operations Director for The Landscape Group said: “I am delighted we have been awarded this prestigious contract to add to The Landscape Group’s portfolio. There was an enormous amount of work involved in reviewing the requirements of all three clients and devising an operational solution that allows us to deliver a quality service to all, but at lower cost to the local taxpayer and residents. We have come up with a neighbourhood-team approach that reduces travel time and will allow our staff to focus on their local patch and be more responsive to local needs. I will personally be responsible for mobilising this contract with my Assistant Director Martin Packman. We know that the skills and local knowledge of transferring staff will be invaluable to us and look forward to welcoming them to The Landscape Group next week, and to making the transfer process as smooth as possible. Together, we will offer a fresh new approach to looking after parks, gardens and open spaces for Hastings Borough Council, Rother District Council and AmicusHorizon”

Rother District Council leader Cllr Carl Maynard said: “In the difficult economic climate, the council has to find more efficient ways of working and a joint contract between Rother, Hastings and AmicusHorizon is one such example.”

“As we go forward we find ourselves working in partnership with other organisations more and more and this is an excellent way of providing value for money services to our residents, with joint savings of £1/2m each year over the course of this contract.”

Steve Madell, Regional Asset Director Sussex, AmicusHorizon, said: “This joint procurement is a new and ground-breaking approach to regional grounds maintenance. We are looking forward to working with our partners and The Landscape Group in providing excellent services for our residents’’.
