Johnson to join peace prayer rally
London Mayor Boris Johnson will join the father of stab victim Damilola Taylor at a Christian rally on Sunday afternoon.
More than 25,000 people are expected at the The Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) London to pray for a halt to crime and violence in the capital.
Mr Johnson will address the crowd gathered at Millwall FC's ground, the New Den in south London, and call on churches to join him in a mission to cut crime.
Richard Taylor, whose 10-year-old son Damilola Taylor was fatally stabbed in Peckham, south London, in November 2000, will say a prayer on behalf of his family and other families affected by gun and knife crime.
GDOP London founder Pastor Dr Jonathan Oloyede said: "We are deeply honoured that the Mayor wants to share his vision for London with us and to seek our prayers and support.
"GDOP is committed to working with all in authority for the good of our city, and we have been praying for Mr Johnson since his election."
The event begins at 4pm with the mayor due to speak at about 4.20pm.
