Councillors have backed a report investigating a £240,000 renovation of Fisherman's Green and the Sovereign Skate Park.
A report was presented to the council's scrutiny committee on Wednesday evening by councillors David Elkin and Carolyn Heaps.

The two sites have been earmarked for renovation thanks to a £500,000 package from the sale of the Wartling Road coach park.

A total of £567,404 was put aside for renovating open spaces in the town.

The scrutiny committee decided to support the report's recommendations for the two sites, which included: endorsing findings that the tennis and basketball courts at Fisherman's Green are valued by local residents and should be refurbished to include tennis, basketball and a skating area; the Sovereign Skate Park needs new ramps and fencing; suitable floodlighting should be investigated for both sites; consideration should be given to improving the toilets at Fisherman's Green and action on progressing the two projects should start immediately.

To refurbish the two sites would cost £156,500 for Fisherman's Green: £70,000 for resurfacing the site, £65,000 for fencing, £10,000 for a new shelter, £2,000 for new basketball posts, £3,000 for new tennis posts and permanent metal nets, £5,000 for floodlighting and £1,500 for benches and bins; and £80,000 for Sovereign Skate Park: £10,000 to replace the fencing; £10,000 for floodlighting; £10,000 for a shelter and £50,000 for new ramps.

The report will now go before Eastbourne Borough Council's next cabinet meeting on Wednesday (April 16).
