A CHARITY gig takes place today (Friday 27 Nov) at the Winter Garden in memory of Chris Lambird and Tuesday O'Hara, who were both treated on the Pevensey Ward at Eastbourne DGH.
Tickets are £6 from the Congress Theatre box office and there will be three local bands playing. D'arc, who have reformed after 20 years, will be supported by two young and upcoming bands, Glam Ryze and My So Called Life.
All proceeds will go toward
s the new cancer unit at the District General and the Tuesday O'Hara Fund will also be collecting on the actual night towards young adults with leukaemia/cancer.
D'arc first appeared in 1980 where they played in various venues all over the South of England. Local people may remember them appearing at places such as Diplocks, Chelsea College and TJ's.
The band signed to Flying Record Productions and soon their first single, called The Letter, was released all over Europe, reaching its highest chart position in Germany.
After years of playing in other bands, recording and playing with other artists, D'arc are now back and planning to release a new album.
Glam Ryze are from Eastbourne and their music genre is rock and My So Called Life are indie.
The Friends of the Eastbourne Hospitals Special Project for 2008/09 is the Pevensey Ward Appeal, the creation of new facilities for patients undergoing treatment for cancer and other blood-related illnesses.
The Pevensey Unit provides day and in-patient services for people undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and related illnesses but is bursting at the seams and needs a bigger site.
Creating specific rooms within the new unit is the family of Chris Lambird, a popular businessman and sportsman, who played football for Eastbourne Town.
He died aged 39 in May 2007 after a brave two-year battle with cancer, much of it on the Pevensey Ward. The Lambird family and friends are raising money in Chris's name.
The project is also being supported by the Tuesday O'Hara Fund, which assists young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 who are patients of the Pevensey Unit.
Tuesday was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2003 at the age of 18 and succumbed in January 2007 after an incredibly brave four-year battle.
