Team of volunteers to spruce up centre

The current Princes Trust Team

A TEAM of young people are about to embark on a community project at Mencap Open Door, in St Leonards, as part of a Prince’s Trust programme.

The group of 15, aged between 16 and 25 are currently approaching middle of the 12-week programme, and have this week been redecorating the art room at the centre.

They have already taken part in a smaller community project at The Bridge Community Centre in Ore, where they cleared snow, began work on a sand pit, decorated a number of rooms, and helped sort out and tidy areas of the community centre.

Phil Grant, Prince’s Trust team leader, said: “The team have got to source all the painting equipment themselves, and have been busy writing emails and making phone calls to local businesses.”

The programme, run in association with Sussex Downs College, is designed to help unemployed young people gain the skills and confidence to get a job.

It includes a residential week, a community-based project and a two-week work placement.

The next programme is due to start in May.

Any donations of equipment are welcome, and Phil can be contacted on 01424 728899 or by email at phil.grant@sussexdowns.ac.uk.
