Hastings and Rother Rainbow Alliance hold free event

LOCAL people will be telling their life stories and revealing memories when Hastings and Rother Rainbow Alliance holds a free event to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month.

Entitled Out of the Closet: A Celebration of LGBT Life Stories it takes place at the Stade Hall on Saturday, February 18.

The event will launch a new LGBT Life History Project and aims to encourage people to share and record their memories. Barbara Martin, of the alliance, said: “The event will celebrate inspiring lives and introduce oral history and memory sharing. There will be an opportunity to share stories and memorabilia and find out how to get involved and learn oral history interviewing skills. “During the day there will be workshops, speakers, exhibitions, recordings and film, and an evening of live entertainment. The daytime event runs from 11am to 5pm, film screenings from 5pm to 7pm and entertainment and bar from 7pm to 10pm. “Following the event our team of volunteers will continue to record life histories, with the aim of publishing extracts online, in exhibitions or in printed form. Recordings will be preserved within the East Sussex Record Office collection. This will help increase the presence of LGBT voices, currently under-represented within the Record Office collections.”
