Bridge lessons for beginners

A SOCIAL group has started lessons for people keen to learn the skills involved in bridge.

St Leonards Bridge Club is running a series of evening sessions for people wanting to master the mysteries of the game’s concepts from bidding, tricks, trumps and scoring.

The sessions are being held on a Thursday evening at St Mary Magdalene’s Church Hall, in Church Road, St Leonards, starting on February 23.

It is hoped that after the three 10-week terms all the pupils will have the skills to start playing at the club and with friends.

The club, which charges £50 per term for the course has hired in Bexhill-based bridge teacher Katie Kennedy, whose son Stephen, 16, is rapidly becoming one of the best young bridge players in the south east.

Bruce Carrison, club secretary, said: “Bridge is a fantastically social game and the aim of these sessions is to get people to a level where they are confident players and can join in on regular club nights.

“Katie is a great teacher and the classes she runs will be very entertaining and challenging.

“Bridge can suffer from having a rather stuffy reputation, but it is a very sociable game and I’d recommend anybody interested in coming along should get in touch.”

Mr Carrison can be contacted on 07930 161216.
