THE Society held their monthly meeting on Thursday April 10 at Catsfield Village Hall, when our visiting speaker was Mr. George Puddefoot, who runs a large nursery at Sutton at Howe in Kent.
At this nursery he holds the national collection of Fuchsias. Some 1,500 of the plants are listed in his catalogue. We were very fortunate to be able to enjoy his talk as it was at the very last moment that our Secretary was able to make an emergency
booking , owing to the previously arranged speaker having to cancel due to a serious illness.

Mr. Puddefoot kept us all very much interested with his practical knowledge and know-how and parts of his talk were quite amusing.

The second half of his talk was taken up by a question and answer session, which left nobody in doubt about this man's knowledge!
Mr. Puddefoot had brought along a large number of potted fuchsias and other plants - many of which were purchased by members enhancing or adding to their collections.

The final part of the evening was concentrated on the control of pests and diseases, which most members found very interesting and informative.
This was a most enjoyable evening and thanks go to our Secretary, Mrs. Sylvia Thompson, for arranging it at such very short notice.

The monthly mini competition 'A Posy of Spring Flowers' was won by Mrs. Marilyn Stuart.

Our next event is our annual General Plant Sale at Brede Village Hall on Saturday May 10 from 10am to 12noon and the Committee asks that all members get plants to the Hall in good time - preferably on the evening before the sale. Please also mark the prices of all plants on the pots and it would be appreciated if more members could help out on the day as we all know what a busy time it is.

It is requested that those members attending the visit to the 70th London Fuchsia Show at Wisley Gardens notify Mrs. Marilyn Stuart with names and numbers attending as a coach has already been booked.

Last but not least, we all congratulate two of our members who have announced their forthcoming marriage in July - Well done to you, Roy and Joyce.
