THE Silver Hill meeting started with a very pleasant ceremony. Mrs. Lilian Skinner, Chairman, presented Perdita Chamberlain of St. Michael's Hospice with a cheque for £50 and Mrs. Phil Cavanaugh with a cheque for £50 and a further cheque for £20 in memory of Mrs. Vera Klein, a member of Silver Hill T.G. who died recently. She was a very popular member who will be sadly missed. The meeting then proceeded with the Chairman welcoming two members back amongst us after long absences.
Plans were discussed for a Strawberry Tea in June and a visit to Hever Castle on May 26. The East Sussex Federation proposes to hold a recruiting day on May 7 at the Manor Barn, Bexhill. It is hoped as many members as possible will attend between 10.30am and 1pm. Coffee, cakes etc. will be served.

After tea and biscuits were served, Mrs. Victoria Seymour gave us a very interesting talk about 'Host Families in Hastings' Hers was one of the first families to take in students and one of her daughters married one of the Italian boys. She now lives in Milan and runs the scheme in reverse. Mrs. Seymour then told us about a new book she has in the pipeline about just getting by in the years '46-'54 when everything was scarce. The afternoon finished with Silver Hill ladies sharing memories with Mrs. Seymour and viewing the many photographs she had brought with her.

We meet in St. Matthews Hall on the first Monday in the month at 2.15pm.

New members are welcome - phone our Secretary on 01424 424206 for information.
