AT our April meeting we welcomed three new members.
Our speaker for the afternoon was Mr Graham Albon. He gave an interesting illustrated talk on Coast to Coast in Costa Rica.

Mr Albon went to Costa Rica two years ago. In 1948 Costa Rica abolished its army, to make military coups impossible. As a r
esult it is now the only democracy in Central America, and one of the few in the whole of Latin America. The country relies on what they grow, coffee, bananas, plantations of pineapples which are owned by the Del Monte Co., and tourism. Population about 4million. Four-fifths of Costa Rica is richly forested. They have 850 kinds of birds, beautiful flowers and butterflies, and wild animals in the jungle. They have a volcano which erupts every day called the Arenal. Costa Rica means the Rich Coast in Spanish.

The vote of thanks was given by June Potts. Members then enjoyed a hot cross bun with their cup of tea.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, May 21 when our speaker will be Mrs Kent from Taybar Taxis, followed by a bric-a-brac stall.

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at St John's Parish Hall, Brittany Road, St Leonards, from 2-4pm. New members are always welcomed. For further details ring Hastings 751177 or 421605.
