OPEN Short Story Competition - Write a short story - Prizes of £500, £250, £100 and 3 x £50 are on offer in the annual Legend Writing Award short story competition.
Entries may be any kind of story except children's and there is a 2000 word limit. Closing date is August 31 and entry fee £7 for first entry, £5 each subsequent entry. Optional individual critiques available as an extra. Legend is organised by Hasti
ngs Writers' Group and aims to encourage new UK writers. Rules/entry form available from www.legendwritingaward.com or send SAE to LWA, 39 Emmanuel Road, Hastings, TN34 3LB.

On June 30 we welcomed seven members from Shorelink Community Writers' Group, who had formed a judging panel for our short story competition. Sally Gardner gave an informative background talk about Shorelink before telling us how they judged the competition and then giving both overall and individual comments on each entry.

The results were: 1st 'Still Growing' by Monica Percy, 2nd 'The National Sales Conference' by Ken Baker, 3rd 'My Grandparents are Aliens' by Kate O'Hearn and 4th 'It Might Come in Handy' by Bill Myers.
The top two stories were then read out. We are grateful to Shorelink for the obvious time and trouble they took with our entries. Copies of our charity anthology 'Diamonds – A Collection of Childhood Memories' and group anthology 'Strandline Volume 7' are both on sale in Hastings Tourist Information Centre.
