RECENTLY, the club has had additional activities as well as the usual programme of Sunday walks.
A day's ramble starting from Polesden Lacey on the North Downs near Dorking was enjoyed by 48 members.
The main walk, in bright sunshine, was from Polesden Lacey via Ranmore Common to the North Downs Way, where there were splendid views over the
Tillingbourne Valley. Lunch was taken by the river at the village of Gomshall. The afternoon walk ended at Wotton Hatch Pub where drinks, especially cups of tea, were very welcome!
Members who completed the short walk spent the afternoon at Polesden Lacey House and Gardens. The members enjoyed a guided tour round the gardens with an entertaining-guide, who made the history and the grounds come to life.
In May, 18 members enjoyed a holiday in the Lake District.
Places visited included the beautiful Tarn Hows and a trip to Beatrix Potter's cottage. The group also climbed Haystacks and visited Innominate Tarn, where the ashes of the legendary fell walker Alfred Wainwright are scattered. The weather was superb the entire week and the views spectacular.
Future plans for this summer include a Breakfast Ramble, an Evening Ramble, a Barbecue and a Boules Evening.
