THE March meeting of BDAG was well attended with over 40 members present plus visitors, our demonstrator was caricaturist Neil Barton who entertained everyone with anecdotes from his varied career in the advertising industry and the emergence of his talent for portraying people as caricatures.
Neil then explained the basics of creating portraits in this way and demonstrated his skill by drawing a caricature of the club chairman followed by several members of the audience.
Following a short break for tea-drawing materials were handed out
and everyone encouraged to participate in trying to depict individual models selected from the audience.
The event was enjoyed by all and gave a valuable insight into the basics of this art form.
On April 19th local artist and printmaker Stan Rosenthal gave a well attended lecture on John Piper and the British Neo-Romantics.
After an initial equipment failure Stan's high tech presentation included images and discussion of works by John Piper, Edward Burra, Graham Sutherland and Stanley Spencer interspersed with Rosenthals own colourful works and gave an entertaining insight into the thought processes and techniques of the British neo romantic painters.
Throughout the afternoon copies of Stan's colourful publications were available for club members to purchase at specially discounted prices.
The next meeting of the group will be on May 17 at the Memorial Halls on Battle High Street at 2.30pm and will be a demonstration of Highland Landscape in Acrylics by Nick Englefield.
Visitors and new members are welcome to attend.
